Hi my name is Paige Holmes,

I have worked the past 4 years in the NSW Department of Education as a Primary school as a Teacher and as a Student Learning Support Officer.

 I have been working is an accelerated adopter school for the new curriculum, this offered me the chance to gain significant experience and knowledge of the new curriculum. Where I had the opportunity to plan and teach lessons from the new curriculum to the students and be exposed to in-depth professional learning. Throughout my time in the NSW Department of Education, I have been lucky enough to become trained in MacqLit, which is an explicit and systematic reading intervention program for small groups of older low-progress readers. I was provided and conducted with a comprehensive sequence of lessons that includes all the key components necessary for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Along with this I have also had experience teaching ‘Heggerty’s’ the phonological & phonemic awareness program and implementing Little Learners Love Literacy explicit and sequential literacy program. With the classroom teacher I was able to teach the children to read, write and spell with confidence using decodable texts and activity books.

I have a high-level of experience working with the lower years level of primary school, where I have developed a well-rounded skill set in understanding students’ physical, social, and intellectual development. I work alongside students of all learning abilities and have experience with students with high disability needs. I
